Meet Allison

our readers want to get to know you first, tell us about YOU what is your story?

I am 50 years old. I am a mom to three amazing daughters. Elise, Rowan and Isabelle. I am the wife to my life mate Brian, who dreams with me, conspires with me, and works with me. I have designed and built and amazing life with my family.

Now let’s talk business, what do you do? Have you always wanted to have your own business? What inspired you to go down this journey?

I am the owner of Merry Makers LLC, dba Balloon Art by Merry Makers. I have known since my early 20’s that I don’t tick the same way as others. I spent time in the Corporate America World where I worked in Public Relations for the cable companies, Encore and Starz. After just a few short years I realized that I didn’t like trying to fit into someone else’s idea of a box.

My first taste of business and entrepreneurship was in a MLM – Equinox – Water Filtration and supplements. I loved it and hated it. I learned what I was willing to do for money and what I wasn’t willing to do. (Which I felt was far more important).

I then went to work for the Colorado Institute of Art in admissions, I was good and ended up getting pregnant with my first daughter Elise. I did not want to go back to work with a little baby in childcare, so I started looking for alternatives. I started working with my brother in his business. After about a year and a half I gave birth to my 2nd daughter Rowan. I could no longer work for my brother as there simply was not space. So, I started a house cleaning business. With my first daughter at the AIMS Community College childcare, I took my 2nd daughter on my back and cleaned about 5 homes a week.

Very soon after that, I went through certification to become a home daycare and started my daycare when Rowan was about 3 months old. I had a full daycare until my 3rd daughter was born about 2.5 years later.

When Rowan was 4 months old, our little family went on vacation. While there, my husband’s cousin introduced me to balloons. I spent my whole vacation twisting balloons. When we returned to Greeley, I started Merry Makers. When Isabelle was born, I decided to close down my daycare and jump into Merry Makers full time. 18.5 years later. I am internationally recognized, hold many awards and teach in my industry.

What advice do you have for moms who want to start a business?

Life is full of lessons, what has motherhood taught you?

That nothing stays the same. Make plans, but don’t plan the outcome. Expect the unexpected.

just for fun
