Meet Dena

Before we talk about your business, tell us who you are?

I am working daily towards being who and what God wants me to be on this journey. Some days are better than others. I am a mom of 5 kids (ages 17-25) and have been married for 18 1/2 yrs. We are a
blended family. We are also a military family. My husband is an Army Veteran. Our oldest son is actively serving in the Army. Both sides of our family have been in the military for generations. Our journey has been difficult, challenging, heart wrenching, joyful, exciting, and wonderful. Through it all, my husband, Jim and I make sure to tell each other that we don’t only love each other but that we are still “In Love” with each other. Although I am in a great place in my life today, tomorrow may look different. I don’t pretend that my life is perfect or that I am better than anyone else. I have had to cut out toxic people in my life. I have had to live through very lonely moments while being surrounded by many amazing people. I believe it is important to know where you stand every day. I know where I am in my life throughout my day. Some days I don’t take the time to seek God when I wake. Those days are the scariest, hardest, etc. depending on what the day holds without God’s guidance in my life. Facing the health issues that have become present in my life such as, post-concussive syndrome, several diagnoses that impact my eyes, fibromyalgia, severe food allergies, as well as anxiety, depressions, and other issues I do all that I can to thrive in my life and not allow any of these issues define me or take over control of my life. I am an emotional person. I tend to cry at a lot of things. I am socially awkward. I am really nervous around new people. Unfortunately, people see it as me acting stuck-up or that I believe I’m too good for them. Nope, I just struggle with big crowds, new people, and surroundings. I love being at home. I enjoy sitting around talking, writing, listening to music, watching movies, crocheting, working on genealogy research, and talking with friends and family. I believe every moment is to be cherished and appreciated. I have issues just like everyone else. The severity is all about perspective and most people can’t see my issues as they are not visible to others. I love God, myself, my husband and children above all others. I am blessed to have women in my life that are like sisters to me and love me as such. So that’s me in a not so little nutshell.

I believe what sets me apart is that I focus on an area of life that most people haven’t until the past couple of years. Even then, I focus on the inner foundation of the woman, the past others ignore, and the root cause of issues. I am a professional by trade. I received my Cosmetology license in 1998 and worked in the industry on and off. I worked in the medical field as well as customer service. I received my accounting certificate in 2012. I opened my Accounting and Bookkeeping Business in 2013. In the Summer of 2015, God clearly gave me a choice to grow my business with the opportunities available to me or to close it down. I knew God wanted me to close it. I just didn’t understand why since my
business was making money and I was on track to double that year and triple in the next year. I chose to close my business at the end of 2015. Thank God I did. We were in a car wreck in May of 2016 and I was out of commission until August 2016 and even then, I still was very limited in what I could do. The trauma from my impact flared my fibromyalgia so bad they couldn’t even asses what was injury pain and what was fibro related pain. I also had some brain trauma. Although I couldn’t take in information I could still write. I couldn’t do anything physically. My husband reminded me I could still work on writing my book, “It’s Time 2 Change: How to Overcome Your Past so You can Live Your Purpose”. I did and launched my book in April 2017. I had no idea what God had in store for me. It was definitely a leap of faith. I obtained my life coaching certification in 2017 as well. Helping women discover their inner greatness and conquer all aspects of their lives is my passion. I believe we were all born with an untouched purity that has since been contaminated by the world around us and its time to be willing to dig deep to the deepest, darkest parts of ourselves and learn to heal from all teachings, habits, and beliefs we have taken on as our truth. Most of the time we don’t even notice that we are lying to ourselves just to sacrifice the world we live in. My mission is to help women through my book, journal, FB group, speaking, and workshops to overcome all that has been, discover their truth, so they can create the life they were created for.

What advice do you have for moms who want to start a business?

just for fun

Did you make a New Year’s resolution? If yes, what is it? If no, why?

I am a believer in words having power. God says you breathe life or death with your tongue. If we are speaking words out of context then we could be setting ourselves up for failure. Resolution is derived from the Latin root word re solvere: loosen, released. The new year used to be when people were released from their debts and/or had to resolve their debts; anything borrowed would be returned to its town or home of origin to start the year fresh with all you owned and only what belonged to you. I know our definitions have changed over the years, but I see it as wanting to be released from or to end something. Other people have a different intention with their words. This word could work for many people. For me, I like to spend time with God, ask for a word for the year, and live my life in that way. Every day is a new start. I don’t wait for the new year to change things in my life. Be intentional with releasing all that no longer serves you throughout the year as need. when the new year comes around take time to discover your word for the year and allow that to guide and build your year. Allow your word to become part of your foundation for that year. For next year will be very different. You will need a new word.
