Before we talk about your business, tell us who you are?
Hi, I’m Emily! I help burned out 9-5ers to make a confident and clear plan to quit their job and start their own business. I’m a mom to an incredible two-year-old and have a home, husband and golden retriever pup in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I was in Corporate America, HR work, for 15 years and left in August to pursue my own dreams.
Now let’s talk business, what sets you apart? How did you start on your journey?
I always knew I wanted to work with people and help them, but I wasn’t quite sure how to do that with$50,000 in student loan debt and graduating in the recession. I worked my way up the HR corporate ladder and threw all my “extra” money at my student loans. After 10 years, and a mortgage, plus a divorce and finding my now husband, I paid them all off ($70,000). My son, Cedar, really sparked me to finally leave my stressful day job, when he was born with multiple congenital heart defects. He had to have open heart surgery…twice…and a pacemaker, before he was even six months old. I knew I wanted my time to matter, and to do something I love, while getting time with my kiddo. So, I finally quit in August, to take care of my family, and run my own business online and from home.
What advice do you have for moms who want to start a business?
What book or podcast do you recommend?
I love Medicine Stories podcast, ran by a momma, and Tangentially Speaking. Listen to things that expand your possibilities! I’m a big fan of women’s storytelling and dreaming-into-reality like Women Who Run with the Wolves by Pinkola-Estes and all of Sharon Blackie’s books.
