Before we talk about your business, tell us who you are?
I’m Kelly! Mom to a crazyyyy toddler and spoiled bunny. I’m an artist, Starbucks addict and conspiracy theorist.
TELL US HOW YOU STARTED ON YOUR JOURNEY AND WHAT SETS YOU APART? HOW DID YOU START YOUR JOURNEY?
I started my journey as a fine artist at CalArts, but I always struggled with creating just to create. Eventually, I fell in love with the intentionality behind graphic design, quickly transferred universities and graduated as a design major with a minor in mathematics. This seemingly odd combination has made me a unique hybrid in the business world.
I’ve now been designing professionally for 10+ years for agencies, big name brands like Element & Disney, small businesses, creative entrepreneurs and everything in between.
I started my own design house, Star Castle Studio almost 2 years ago now and I’m so happy I did. My background in art has allowed me to be a bridge for other creatives looking to establish a beautiful online brand through one-of-a-kind visuals.
I’ve taken everything I learned designing for the ‘big guys’ and infuse it into everything I now create 100% custom for my clients. I proudly specialize in creating unique brands and visual magic for artful entrepreneurs and makers looking to make an unforgettable impact online.
It’s been a crazy journey, but I’m never looking back!
What advice do you have for moms who want to start a business?
- Remember why you started and what you hope to achieve. Success doesn't look the same for everyone – so be sure you're actually working towards what YOU want.
- My mom was a stay-at-home mom and her support was key for me to getting where I am today. When I found out I was pregnant, I was determined to provide a similarly strong foundation for my own little one.
- Whenever I get overwhelmed with business, I remind myself of why I'm doing all of this – to show my little one that anything is possible, and to be an unwavering presence in her life by working from home.
- Remembering you're not trying to make billions or conquer the world take a lot of weight off your shoulders and can provide space for you to be a better, more present mom.
