Our readers want to get to know you first, tell us about YOU what is your story?
I am a single mom of 5 mostly grown children, a full-time 5th grade teacher, author, Women’s Empowerment coach and an Independent Noonday Ambassador, a fair trade fashion company. Otherwise known as the #tutulady, I am a runner and Girls on the Run coach/site coordinator.
In my spare time I read, knit and actively practice yoga. I also volunteer with Blessons (a women’s scholarship organization) and Free Mom Hugs (affirming parents and allies who love the LGBTQ+ community). I am a strong and vocal advocate for mental health support as well as an ally for the LGBTQ community.
I have been through many challenges in life from being assaulted to crippling anxiety and depression. My biggest Blesson (blessing and lesson) would have to be my divorce. I was married for over 20 years to an emotionally and financially abusive man. I stayed “for the kids” and because I didn’t know it was abuse at the time.
I live my life with the goal of inspiring and empowering others to be the best they can be at whatever endeavor they choose, to see the greatness they possess and use that greatness to the best of their ability. I am also a motivational speaker and writer, inspiring and empowering others, especially women, to live their truth.
Now lets talk business, what do you do? Have you always wanted to have your own business- what inspired you to go down this journey?
I have always wanted to be my own boss as well as help others. Teaching is one vehicle for helping others. After my divorce, I wanted more so I became an Independent Noonday Ambassador selling fair trade accessories and providing opportunities for our artisan partners all over the world.
Writing my story for the book, The Lemonade Stand, allowed me to move forward with my coaching career. I started speaking to groups about the book and then became certified as a Professional Life coach.
Starting my coaching business has been so amazing. Helping women become their best self and live into their greatness is lifechanging for me.
What advice do you have for moms who want to start a business?
Life is full of lessons, what has motherhood taught you?
Motherhood has taught me that I have to love and accept the children I have not the ones I want them to be. Children are only with us for a short time…and then we have to let them go into the world. We need to love and accept them for the amazing human they are. We can not live our mistakes through them. Be humble. admit that you make mistakes and that you are far from perfect. Let them go they will come back eventually and you will have a different and better relationship with them as adults. Love them unconditionally.
