We all love being a mom, before we talk about mom life, share with us who you are. We want to know your story- what do you love to do? What are you passionate about?
I am fortunate to get to live my passions each and every day, though it depends which one on which day. First and foremost, I am a wife and mom. My husband and I have been married 15 years, and I’m fortunate he puts up with me most days. I have also been an educator for 15 years and have worked with every grade K-12. This year I moved to our district office, so it’s a whole new perspective on the career that I love. When I’m not working or running my son to various activities, you can find me either outdoors or reading. I love virtually all outdoor activities; my favorites include hiking, running, camping, and various team sports. When it’s time to relax a bit, you can find me reading a huge variety of books. All of these activities and loves come from my faith. I fully believe that God has plans, even when they feel hard, that he has placed me in this spot and this moment for. I am blessed to have a fantastic church family at Christ Church Windsor who support me in all that I do.
Laurel, Colorado is a beautiful state what outdoor activities do you enjoy doing with your son?
Gabe and I love getting outside, especially during the summer. One perk of working in education is that we have lots of time to head outdoors. Our favorite activity is hiking, and we try to do one fourteener every summer. We love living in Windsor because we can take our kayak out on so many different lakes. The whole family loves to camp and tries to get one big trip in every summer, but we’ve also started some backpacking adventures as well. Really, any activity we can do outside…we’re there!
What advice do you have for first time moms?
- There is no such thing as perfect!
- It seems that there is some picture out there of moms doing it all; clean house, mom and me classes all day, happy all the time...and it's just not real!
- You want to use formula, good! You want to breastfeed, good! You want to cosleep, great! You want to have them sleep in their own room, great!
- You and your family can make this whole motherhood thing look like whatever you want.
- Don't let the stigmas and social expectations make you feel like anything less than amazing.
- God picked you to be the mom for your little one. Just you! That means he knew you were perfect, just how you are.
