We all love being a mom, before we talk about mom life, share with us who you are. We want to know your story- what do you love to do? what are you passionate about?
I love doing community theater. It’s my happy place, my stress reliever. I’ve been in 17 theater productions here in my community theater in town. I’ve done musicals and non-musicals. I also love photography, being out in nature, camping, hiking and biking. I am a good cook and love finding new recipes on Pinterest to try. I’m passionate about my family and keeping close relationships. My family is everything to me. My son, his wife, and their two little girls are my world. I’m also blessed to have a great guy in my life and he has two kids that I get to be a mom figure to as well.
Mom is a title we are all proud of, tell us your birth story!
I was born in a rural little town and raised in a farming community in a tiny town with a population of 206. VERY small. I was born at 5:45pm, right around the time my mom was making dinner she started feeling contractions. This woman still made an entire dinner AND 2 dozen homemade our tortillas for her family, then was taken to the hospital 14 miles away, and delivered me at 5:45pm. She called me her fortune cookie cuz I came “after dinner.” We all lived in a one bedroom, one bath house. The den was converted into a big bedroom with 4 beds for all of the kids. I spoke only Spanish until I went to Kindergarten, where I learned to speak English. My older siblings also helped me learn English. I am the youngest of 9 children. I graduated from HS in a class of 15 students.
What advice do you have for first time moms?
- With a new born, sleep when the baby sleeps. Sleep deprivation is real, as is postpartum depression. Taking care of yourself is just if not more important than caring for that new baby. Seek out the help people offer you, take them up on that! Take all the advice you get with a grain of salt... not everyone has the best advice or they share things that worked for THEM that may not be the best for YOU. Now you have google, so you can fact check stuff, so just say, "thank you, I'll try that..." and do your own research. Go with your gut. They don't come with manuals, so you have to do what you feel is the best.
