Before we talk about your business, tell us who you are?
Hello! I am a new mom to a wonderful little boy, Connor. My husband and I moved from Tennessee to Sioux Falls, SD almost 5 years ago to start our life together. I love to hike, be outside and go on adventures no matter how big or small.
Now let's talk business, what sets you apart? How did you start on your journey?
My business is somewhat unique, in that it focuses on the personal side of relocation. I had moved quite a bit as a child, but when we moved to Sioux Falls, I had completely different perspective on moving. It was then that I realized there was a major gap in relocation support. The traditional household goods move we received from my husband’s employer was great but did not help us assimilate and transition our lifestyle into a new community. How were we supposed to uproot our entire lives and make HOME in this new place?
From this experience I decided to start my business, The Relocation Companion, to provide that much needed support and guidance for individuals, couples, and families. I truly want them to be happy, successful and really thrive with their move and in their new home/community. Everybody deserves to be happy and love where they live!
What advice do you have for moms who want to start a business?
- Time blocking and scheduling!
- Since having my son, I have struggled to balance mom-duty and find time to work in the business. We have not put our son in childcare (for various reasons), which has been wonderful to spend time with him, but also VERY difficult to get work done. I also work from a home office so that separation between work and family was not happening.
- Just recently my husband and I sat down and worked out a schedule. As simple as it sounds, we hadn't actually had the conversation and made a plan. So now there are specific blocks of time where I am Mom and specific blocks of time where I am Boss Lady! This has been great for all of us and my productivity has increased drastically. It also allows me time with my son that is uninterrupted with thoughts of work.
What book or podcast do you recommend?
I usually always find something relevant to listen to on The Goal Digger podcast!
Podcasts are the way to go when trying to balance Mom and Boss Lady! I listen to podcasts while my son naps in the stroller. That is the only way for me to get that content.
