Our readers want to get to know you first, tell us about YOU what is your story?
My name is Sarah Serrano and I a Colorado Native and a mother to two wonderful boys and two fur babies. Gavin is 4.5, Landon is 3 months and then of course Rocco our pup and Hazel our kitty. I met my husband at Colorado State University about 10 years ago and am thankful every day that our paths crossed freshmen year of college. I graduated with a degree in Hospitality Management with a Minor in Business. I worked hard and grew into several management roles within the hospitality world. It was in the hospitality world that I met a woman who would inspire me to change my life starting with my health. I have many hobbies like cooking, cleaning-can we call cleaning a hobby? lol (I do enjoy doing it and do it often), taking photos and documenting my family’s life, healthy movement and being outdoors in the wonderful Colorado sun and being an inspirational leader and coach to many. I do have to say that my most precious role so far has been being a mother, I wouldn’t change that for anything.
Now let’s talk business, what do you do? Have you always wanted to have your own business- what inspired you to go down this journey?
There are two things I always knew I wanted to do since a young age. I wanted to own my own business and I wanted to make a difference. I’ve always had an entrepreneur mindset and a strong desire to help people. I always came up with new ideas on what I wanted to do from opening my own event center, to day care, from selling homemade bracelets for breast cancer to custom cakes in high school. It wasn’t until I met a co-worker in the hotel industry that I found my true calling. After having my first son I struggled with weight loss and let’s be honest the struggle really started before. My co-worker was on this amazing health journey and I knew I wanted to finally lose the weight, but also change my habits for good to live a long healthy life. I lost 65lbs in about 7 months and inspired a lot of friends and family members along the way. About halfway through my journey I decided to pay the gift forward and become a certified health coach as well. Since then I have helped 100’s of people with a healthy body and a healthy mind. With health coaching I am able to focus on what matters most, my family, yet still match the salary I was making in the hotel industry. It is everything I’ve ever wanted, and it started with me taking a leap of faith in my own personal health.
What advice do you have for moms who want to start a business?
Life is full of lessons, what has motherhood taught you?
Motherhood has taught me to be patient and not sweet the small things. The glass of water will spill on the floor, the baby will have a blow out at the most inconvenient moment. It just happens. But the way you react to stress and frustration with your kids can be such an important lesson to their growth. I constantly remind myself that my son is 4.5 and he is learning and growing just as much as I am learning and growing as a mother.
