Our readers want to get to know you first, tell us about YOU what is your story?
Aloha!! I’m the crazy, silly, fun, rambling, kind of gal you take to a coffee shop & creator of My Rambling Thoughts and Owner of Hauoli-Socially Inspired.
I’m a mom of a teenager (help) who I absolutely adore and found the love of my life after being a single parent for a couple of years. He also happened to be a US Army Solider stationed in Hawaii where we met and in true military fashion…everything happened fast!
At the age of 40 and leaving my 20+ year career in upper restaurant management for a multi-million-dollar company, we entered my first PCS to Louisiana.
My husband and I discussed dabbling in the stay at home mom/wife life for a bit to get the kid & I used to military life and that led to me getting back into my personal blog that had taken a backseat. (Story of most moms, am I right?!)
When getting back into blogging which I had done really since 2005, I noticed how different it was in 2016. Social Media played such a huge part of promoting your content and you didn’t just hit publish and eyeballs were all over it. So, I learned what I could, saw what a difference it made and really focused on being knowledgeable. That led me to get my first paid client managing their social media, email marketing & website maintenance.
Today 4 years later, I design WordPress Websites and am a go-to for clients who need help navigating the digital world. So, so different from where I would be if you asked me before when I was managing over 100+ staff members and creating guests experiences in my restaurant for someone else’s business and dreams.
Now let’s talk business, what do you do? Have you always wanted to have your own business- what inspired you to go down this journey?
So, officially on my business page, this is how I explain what I do….
Aloha, I’m Selena. Some call me their Social Media Gal, Website Designer Extraordinaire Guru, Genius (their words, not mine) and many more rockstar adjectives.
I help my clients navigate the digital world through their social media, email marketing & designing websites that convert!
I’m also a Military Spouse following my husband with my kid & dog in tow to wherever the Army sends us.
H A U O L I, the name of my small boutique-y business, means Happy in Hawaiian and has a special meaning that became the inspiration for this new journey.
It also represents me in a nutshell. I live, breathe, work for the happy. Transparency from the minute the door opens is what I’m telling you. You are seeing me. What I will bring to your table. I want your business to succeed and in todays’ time, social media plays a part in that.
I enjoy this crazy game of hashtags and algorithms. Of helping you optimize the crap out of your online presence so when things point at your brand/product/whatever it’s GAME ON!
What advice do you have for moms who want to start a business?
Life is full of lessons, what has motherhood taught you?
Perspective, patience & a deep appreciation knowing that plans change, or don’t always go according to how you laid it out. Know that pivoting is okay.
And knowing that coffee is in absolutely a must in my motherhood survival kit.
